International shipping from Dubai, handled end to end

Dubai sits at the centre of the world's trade map, roughly eight hours by air from two-thirds of the planet's population and connected by sea to every major container port. That geography is only an advantage if the freight actually moves — booked on the right mode, cleared through Dubai Customs without a hold, and delivered to the receiver's door on the far side. That is the whole job of international shipping from Dubai, and it is what we have done for 40 years from our base in Barsha Heights (Tecom).

We ship outbound worldwide: established lanes to the USA, Canada, the UK, mainland Europe, Australia, the wider GCC, India and the broader Middle East, plus one-off destinations on request. Whether you are exporting a single pallet of samples or a full container of machinery, the brief is the same — move it safely, price it honestly, and keep you informed the whole way.

Choosing a mode by lane, not by habit

The most expensive mistake in worldwide shipping from the UAE is defaulting to one mode for everything. The right answer depends on the lane, the weight-to-volume ratio, and how quickly the goods are needed.

Air freight earns its premium when time or value is high — perishables, spares, electronics, documents, e-commerce replenishment. From DXB and Al Maktoum (DWC) there is dense belly-hold and freighter capacity to almost anywhere, so transit is measured in days rather than weeks. The cost is driven by chargeable weight, meaning the greater of actual and volumetric weight, so bulky-but-light cargo is often better routed by sea.

Sea freight is the workhorse for volume. FCL (full container load) suits anything that fills a 20ft or 40ft box; LCL (less than container load) lets smaller consignments share space and pay only for the cubic metres they use. Jebel Ali, the largest container port between Rotterdam and Singapore, gives direct sailings on most trade lanes, which keeps transhipment and delay to a minimum.

Land freight is the natural choice for the GCC. Bonded trucks run daily from Dubai across the border to Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar, and road is frequently faster and cheaper than a short-sea or air alternative into those markets.

For many shipments the smart answer is a blend — sea-air for a balance of cost and speed, or road-air for regional feeder legs. We size the option against your actual deadline and budget rather than pushing a single product.

Key corridors and realistic transit ranges

Transit time depends on routing, sailing schedules, space availability and customs at both ends, so treat the following as realistic planning ranges rather than guarantees. Cut-offs, peak-season congestion and public holidays all move the numbers.

Dubai to the USA. Air freight commonly runs 3–6 days door-to-door to major hubs, longer to inland points. Sea freight to the US East and West Coasts typically takes around 25–40 days port-to-port depending on routing and transhipment, plus pick-up and final delivery. US imports need correct classification and, for ocean, an ISF filing, so documentation discipline matters here.

Dubai to the UK. Air is commonly 2–4 days door-to-door. Sea to Felixstowe or Southampton is typically 20–30 days port-to-port. Land onward delivery across the UK is straightforward once cleared.

Dubai to mainland Europe. Air freight to hubs such as Frankfurt, Amsterdam or Paris is commonly 2–4 days. Sea to Rotterdam, Antwerp or Hamburg is typically 18–28 days port-to-port, with fast onward trucking across the EU thereafter.

Dubai to Australia. Air is commonly 4–7 days to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth. Sea is typically 20–30 days port-to-port. Australia's biosecurity rules are strict, so packing, treatment and declarations must be right first time to avoid quarantine holds.

Dubai to India. A short, high-frequency lane. Air is often 1–3 days to Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai or Bengaluru; sea is commonly 5–12 days port-to-port depending on the destination port and service.

Dubai to Saudi Arabia. Land freight by bonded truck is typically 2–5 days door-to-door depending on the city and border clearance at Batha or Al Ghuwaifat. Air is usually next-day to two days for urgent consignments.

These ranges are starting points for planning. Give us the exact origin, destination postcode, weight and dimensions and we will quote a specific routing with a realistic window.

Export documentation and Incoterms, done properly

Most shipments that get stuck are stuck on paperwork, not on transport. Getting the documentation right before the goods move is the single biggest thing that protects your transit time.

A clean export file from Dubai generally includes a commercial invoice and packing list, the transport document (an air waybill for air, a bill of lading for sea), a certificate of origin where the destination or a letter of credit requires it, and any product-specific certificates — health, conformity, fumigation or dangerous-goods declarations. Export declarations are lodged through Dubai Customs on the Mirsal 2 system, and correct HS code classification on the invoice drives both duty treatment abroad and clean clearance at home. Goods moving out of a free zone such as JAFZA, DMCC, DAFZA or Dubai South follow their own documentary steps, which we handle as part of the booking.

Incoterms 2020 decide who does what and who carries the risk at each stage, and choosing the wrong one quietly shifts cost and liability onto you. On an EXW or FCA sale your responsibility ends early; on DAP or DDP you are on the hook all the way to the buyer's door, and under DDP you also carry the import duty and taxes at destination. We will talk through which term fits the deal so there are no surprise charges landing on either side — and no goods held because nobody agreed who was clearing them.

Consolidation that lowers the unit cost

If you ship regularly to the same region but not in full-container volumes, consolidation is where the savings live. By grouping several LCL consignments into one container, or several air shipments into a single master air waybill, the fixed costs are shared and the price per kilo or per cubic metre drops. It also reduces the number of separate customs events, which means fewer points of delay. For exporters supplying multiple customers in one market — a distributor network across Europe, several buyers in the US — a planned consolidation programme is usually cheaper and more predictable than shipping each order on its own.

Genuine worldwide door-to-door

Door-to-door means exactly that: we collect from your premises, warehouse or free-zone unit in the UAE, handle export clearance, book and move the main leg, manage import formalities at destination, and arrange final delivery to the consignee. You deal with one team and one point of accountability instead of stitching together a trucker, a forwarder, a customs broker and a last-mile carrier yourself — and chasing four separate parties when something slips.

Behind that sits 40 years of knowing which routings actually hold up, which lanes get congested at which times of year, and how to keep a shipment moving when a sailing is rolled or a flight is full. It is unglamorous, detail-heavy work, and it is the difference between cargo that arrives when you promised your customer and cargo that sits on a quay.

Our international shipping desk works hand in hand with our air freight and sea freight teams for the main leg, and with customs clearance specialists to keep both the export and import ends clean. For regional moves, land freight into Saudi Arabia and the GCC is often the fastest and most economical option.

Talk to a real forwarder before you book

Rates and transit times move constantly with capacity, fuel and season. The most useful thing you can do is send us the specifics — commodity, weight, dimensions, origin, destination and your required delivery date — and let us come back with a mode recommendation, a realistic transit window and an honest price. No inflated promises, no hidden line items, just freight that moves.

Frequently asked questions

  • It comes down to urgency, value and the weight-to-volume ratio. Air suits time-sensitive, high-value or perishable goods and moves in days from DXB or DWC. Sea is far cheaper for volume and heavy or bulky cargo out of Jebel Ali, but takes weeks. Send us your dimensions, weight and deadline and we will recommend the mode that fits your budget and timeline.
