Door to Door Cargo Dubai: One Company, Origin Shelf to Final Destination

Door-to-door cargo is the most complete way to ship. You hand over a consignment at origin, and the next time you touch it is when it arrives at the receiver's door — cleared, delivered, and accounted for. Everything between those two points is ours to manage: collection, export packing and clearance, the main air, sea or road leg, arrival handling, import clearance and duty settlement, and final-mile delivery.

For 40 years we have run this model out of Dubai, and it remains the service busy shippers and first-time importers ask for most. The reason is simple. International freight has perhaps a dozen hand-off points where things stall — a missing HS code, an unpaid duty, an incoterm mismatch, a delivery slot nobody booked. Door-to-door collapses those hand-offs under a single point of accountability. One team, one reference number, one company answering the phone from our Barsha Heights (Tecom) office.

This page explains exactly what a fully managed door-to-door shipment covers, how it maps onto Incoterms 2020, and who it suits.

What "Fully Managed End-to-End" Actually Means

The phrase gets used loosely, so here is the precise scope we take on when you book door-to-door cargo with us.

Origin collection. We arrange pickup from the supplier's factory, warehouse or residence — whether that is a workshop in Guangzhou, a distributor in Germany, or a home in Sharjah. Collection is booked to the supplier's ready date, and we brief the driver on access, timing and any special handling.

Export packing and documentation. Goods are prepared for the mode of transport. We prepare or check the commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin where required, and the transport document — the Air Waybill (AWB) for air, the Bill of Lading (BL) for sea. Getting the paperwork right at origin is what prevents a hold at destination.

Export customs clearance. Goods are declared out of the origin country. In the UAE this runs through Dubai Customs and the Mirsal 2 platform; abroad, our agent network handles the equivalent.

The main freight leg. Air, sea or road, chosen to fit your budget and deadline. Air via DXB or Al Maktoum (DWC) for speed; sea FCL or LCL through Jebel Ali for volume and cost; road for the GCC and wider Middle East corridors.

Import clearance and duty. At destination we lodge the import declaration, classify goods to the correct HS code, and settle duties and taxes. For UAE imports that typically means 5% customs duty on the CIF value plus 5% VAT, unless the goods route through a free zone such as JAFZA, DMCC, DAFZA or Dubai South, where duty can be deferred until the cargo enters the local market.

Final-mile delivery. The consignment is delivered to the receiver's door, offloaded, and closed out against your booking.

You approve the plan; we execute every leg. That is the whole point of door to door shipping in the UAE and beyond — you are buying an outcome, not a stack of separate services you have to stitch together yourself.

Door-to-Door and the DDP Concept

Door-to-door is an operational service. DDP — Delivered Duty Paid — is the Incoterms 2020 rule that most closely mirrors it commercially. Under DDP the seller bears cost and risk all the way to the buyer's premises, including import duties and taxes. It is the most buyer-friendly term in the Incoterms 2020 set and the natural fit when a supplier wants to quote a receiver an all-in landed price.

That said, door-to-door does not force you into DDP. We regularly run door-to-door movements under DAP (Delivered At Place), where we deliver to the door but the consignee remains the importer of record and settles duty and VAT — a common arrangement when the buyer is VAT-registered in the UAE and wants to reclaim input tax cleanly. The service scope is the same; who pays the duty and whose name sits on the import declaration is what changes.

If you are unsure which term protects you, tell us who the buyer is and where the goods are going. Choosing the wrong Incoterm is one of the most expensive mistakes in international trade, and it is worth a five-minute conversation before the first booking. Our team will map the right term onto your commercial reality rather than defaulting to whatever the supplier put on the proforma.

A Single Point of Accountability

On a self-managed shipment, responsibility fragments. The origin forwarder blames the carrier, the carrier blames customs, the customs broker blames the paperwork, and you sit in the middle chasing four parties across three time zones. When something goes wrong, nobody owns it.

Door-to-door removes that gap. Because we control every leg — or contract and supervise it through our own agent network — there is exactly one party responsible for the shipment arriving. If a vessel rolls, we rebook. If a declaration needs a supporting document, we source it. If a delivery window shifts, we coordinate it with the receiver. You get proactive updates at the milestones that matter — collected, departed, arrived, cleared, delivered — not a shrug and a phone number for someone else.

That accountability is the real product here. The freight itself is a commodity; the coordination is where shipments are won or lost.

Who Door-to-Door Cargo Suits

Busy shippers and SMEs without a logistics desk. If you do not have an in-house freight team, door-to-door is the closest thing to having one on retainer. You brief us once and get on with your business. No booking portals to learn, no customs codes to memorise, no midnight emails to a port agent.

First-time importers. The first international shipment is where costly mistakes happen — the wrong Incoterm, an undeclared HS code, a surprise duty bill, a container stuck at Jebel Ali accruing demurrage. Door-to-door puts an experienced team between you and those traps. We tell you the landed cost before you commit, not after.

E-commerce and retail restockers. Predictable door-to-door lanes let you plan inventory around realistic arrival windows rather than guessing at port-to-port transit and hoping the last mile sorts itself out.

Relocating individuals and returning residents. Personal effects and household goods move well on a managed door-to-door basis, where clearance formalities and delivery are handled for you rather than left as your problem at destination.

Anyone shipping high-value or time-sensitive goods who would rather pay for certainty than manage risk across multiple vendors.

Worldwide Lanes From Dubai

Dubai is one of the best-connected trade hubs on earth, and we use that. Our established door-to-door lanes run from the UAE to:

  • USA and Canada — air for speed, sea FCL/LCL for volume, full import clearance at destination.
  • UK and Europe — mature, high-frequency corridors by air and sea.
  • Australia — regular consolidations and full-container movements.
  • GCC and the wider Middle East — fast, cost-effective road freight, often the smartest mode for regional distribution.

Inbound works exactly the same way in reverse: supplier's door in Asia, Europe or the Americas, delivered to your door in the UAE with Dubai Customs clearance handled end to end.

How a Typical Door-to-Door Booking Runs

  1. You share the details — origin and destination addresses, a packing list or commercial invoice, weights and dimensions, and your deadline.
  2. We quote an all-in price and recommend the mode and Incoterm. Sea shipments are priced on FCL or by chargeable weight for LCL; air is priced on the greater of actual or volumetric weight.
  3. You approve; we collect. Pickup is booked to the supplier's ready date.
  4. We clear, ship and track through the main leg, keeping you updated at each milestone.
  5. We clear import, settle duties per the agreed term, and deliver to the door.
  6. We close out with final documentation for your records.

Transit times vary by lane and mode. As a guide, air freight to the major regions we serve is commonly a few days to about a week door-to-door once cleared, while sea freight typically runs a few weeks depending on routing, sailing schedules and clearance. We give you a realistic window at booking — never an inflated promise we cannot keep.

Door-to-door draws on the same operational backbone as our dedicated air freight and sea freight services, with customs clearance woven in at both ends — so if your needs are narrower than a full end-to-end movement, those single-leg services are available on their own too.

Tell us where it is and where it needs to be. We will handle the rest — from the origin shelf to the final destination, under one roof and one accountable team.

Frequently asked questions

  • Door-to-door is the operational service — we manage collection, freight, clearance and final delivery. DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) is the Incoterms 2020 rule that assigns cost and risk, including import duties, to the seller until the buyer's door. Door-to-door often runs under DDP, but it can equally run under DAP, where the consignee remains importer of record and settles duty and VAT. The service scope stays the same; only who pays duty changes.
